Winter time should go
We have had enough of snow
Been too cold too long

When will Spring arrive
With its warmth and fragrant smells
Longing for the sun

Need to smell the scents

I saw a woman much older than me

wearing pleather pants as tight as can be.

Her feet were tilted in stiletto boots.

Her face and botox were in cahoots.

 

Her hair was bleached; her skin was tan.

She was walking with a much younger man.

Everyone can dress as they like it’s true.

especially if you want others staring at you.

 

Her very sheer top had me shaking my head.

What more can I say?  It all has been said.

You might think I write from a place of jealousy,

But whatever happened to aging gracefully?

Don’t know why this is happening
All I want to do is write
Yet I have spent so much time staring at the blank page

Feeling blah
Ideas are alluding me
Very strange
Every topic seems lame

Find myself just flipping through other posts
Unable to get into a groove
Nothing seems to feel right
Keep thinking! Have to come up with a post for tomorrow!

I could be cranky and stew all day

Because my prep periods just went away.

I understand a teacher is sick

By why was today the day she’d pick?

 

Today I’m so busy. I’m singing the blues.

NJHS induction is today’s big news.

Must set up the stage and put things just right

Going over details kept me up half the night.

 

I could be cranky and stew all day

But that would be fruitless and get in the way.

I have lots of helpers to make things go well.

It is going to be great. I can just tell.

 

No need to be cranky or stew or feel stressed

Not when you work with the very best.

Everyone pitched in to do whatever was needed

Cranky and stewing were quickly defeated.

That hit by a truck feeling
I can’t get out of bed
Can hardly open my eyes
With the pounding in my head
Urgent Care trip in the morning
They take a test or two
Confirmed what I could’ve told them
~ my dear you have the flu!
No reading! No writing!
You can say what you will
But when it came to no eating
I really knew I was ill!
Tamiflu, Theraflu
Tissues, hot tea
Thermometer, cough drops
How can this be?!?
Life is passing me by
Missed a party and more
Going on to day five
Without a foot out the door
Don’t look in the mirror
The sight’s too hard to see
That pale and haggard reflection
Surely cannot be me!!
When I go back to school
This I can tell
It will be with my friends
Lysol and Purell!

My notebook is coming apart at the seams.
A little like me it seems.

It has hardly been written in or read,
But its demise has me seeing red.

When I bought it, it looked really great,
but now on my nerves it does grate.

It’s not like it’s just a small piece
If it were then I could have peace.

I don’t want to leave it bare,
but this rip is more than I can bear.

To abandon it doesn’t seem right,
Within it will I be able to write?

Oh, I’ll keep it and stop my whine
As I pour myself a nice glass of wine.

Hear the wind whipping
The sleet slamming against the bedroom window
Snowstorms should be quiet

As day breaks there is silence
Just snow falling, no alarm clocks ringing,
No whispers of showers, no hustle, no bustle

Soon the voices of newscasters fill the air
Reporting from near and far
The heater clicks on and off with greater frequency

Later the sounds of shovels scraping the blacktop
Combine with humming snow blowers and car motors
Reverberating through the neighborhood

The house begins to crackle and creak
As the sun makes a short appearance
Crunching boots resound through the frozen precipitation

Spoons stirring in cups of hot cocoa
Sputtering popcorn jumps into the bowl
It’s good to be home on a day like today
